I am a novice to classical music and so this is a review for those who are new and looking for a quality place to start. The Red Classics albums are a great value for a novice. I grew up listening to plenty of rock music but in college was required to take a musicology class, which whet my appetite for classical music. So far I have purchased nine Red Classics albums, eight composers in addition to the Spanish Guitar recording. The sound quality is very good, full and clear. Having purchased a few older recording where the sound crackles, and pops, I can say these are much better, certainly sufficient for a newbie. Those old recording are fun for their vintage sound, but if you want to listen carefully to a composer’s work, it is nice to have a clear recording, and save the vintage sound for a cozy rainy day. Because of my class, I had a fair idea which composers I wanted to start with. However, you may not. These albums offer a wide range of composers across the different classical eras, and each album contains a great sampling of the composer, for only ONE DOLLAR! You got nothing to lose. If it turns out your first choice doesn’t excite you, you’re only out a buck, just pick another. These are a steal, and a great way to get a firm introduction to a new genre.
