This album is not only recognized as having one of the most delightful covers in the MPS catalogue, this October 1971 Baden Powell recording is also part of the second trilogy that he recorded for the label between 1966 and 1975. The album was iinspired by Powells relationship with writer and producer Joachim Ernst Berendt, who helped Powell further his European career by inviting him to perform at the Berlin Jazz Festival of 1967. The songs on this album show Powells distinct style, which fused elements of bossa nova, samba, Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz and musica popular brasileira, as well as his virtuosic guitar playing.
Forget Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai or Yngvie Malsteem... Baden Powell is the greatest guitar player who ever lived. Technically skilled while (unlike those hair metal losers), soulful and able to feel and connect with the spirit of the music. This album blends Samba, Bossa Nova, Jazz and Baroque/Classical music. Many of Baden's albums were recorded in "one session" over the course of a few hours, however, the man pours everything he has into each cut. There is absolutely no filler here. Standout tracks for me include: ALL OF THEM, although "Blues A Volonte" is a highlight.
